Steve Marvel

Lead singer, guitarist, keyboards, percussion

Favorite Bands growing up:   My dad made sure that I caught “Beatlemania” even though I was just a tot.  Eventually it came to Aerosmith, followed by my introduction to Genesis (pre & post Peter), Yes, and Van Halen.  Moving to San Francisco just in time for the whole “Modern Rock” sound of the 80’s was a notable moment. And I loved the “Dynatones” out of San Francisco…C.C. Miller is a fantastic singer and those guys were close to goin’ all the way. Bottom line, I’m easily influenced… J

Favorite bands currently:    I absolutely loved “The Verve” release in circa ’97 and had a bizarre obsession with anything “Oasis”, but really…I’m kind of waitin’ for the next new thing cuz’ this retread “Alternative”deal has about run it’s course with me…it seems like popular radio has about four different sounds and then a bunch of clones on the bandwagon.

First Concert:   Jethro Tull – “Songs from the Wood” tour! We got 1st row seats…I was hooked!

Favorite Concert:   Unfair question…but I must come clean…every show with The Scorpions !!! I’ve been to a ton of shows but I keep goin’ back to see the Scorps…I guess that’s ultimately the yardstick, eh? Many high-fives to the IGUANA for joining me for almost every annual show since 1985. I have been responsible for bringing several new faces into the Scorpions camp…notably Dave Brown and Kasey Wills. Honorable mention must go to both Genesis and Yes…the “Seconds Out” tour and “In the Round” stand out as some of the greatest shows of our time (thanks to Lew Miller for driving us to that Yes concert). Of course, U2 was huge at the US Festival II just after they released “War” and I have been a big fan ever since.

Hobbies & Free Time:   Growing up in Delaware, I spent all of my time in the summer at Dewey Beach…I highly recommend stopping there on your travels through the East Coast. Translation: I’m a water boy…skiing behind my boat, entertaining on the boat, taking trips with the boat…you get it. Oh…and I totally enjoy a “good walk wasted”… golf J

Origins:   Born in Wilmington, Delaware…  attended University of Delaware (while spending most of the time playing in bands and not studying), moved to San Francisco in 1982 to work in the recording industry…put out a record in a band named “Ruby Shoes” with my dear friend Tom Cuddeback in ’87. Through that group I had the great fortune to become close friends and band mates with Rich Flynn…he’s the incredibly talented guy playing the guitar in our band! Soon thereafter it was on to “Atticus Finch” and my introduction to another close friend and our drummer, Matt Berg. Not to be out-done…Matt actually is responsible for bringing our bass player, Mike Simmons, into the fold and rounding out a group of guys I love to play music with!!! The treat has been mine…   J

What it is:   It’s about that one moment in a show…you see the looks on the faces in the crowd…and you know…there is nothing in the world you’d rather be doing…right now!
